The Challenge
The Company had developed a new technology that replaced conventional chemicals in multiple applications in the janitorial and sanitation, food safety and healthcare markets. Founded by retired business executives and funded by “friends and families,” the Company was at a crossroads – raise significant additional capital to ramp sales and marketing, or find a buyer.
True North’s Role
True North was brought in to help the Company develop options for raising capital and for selling the Company. True North helped the Company develop a marketing plan, worked on product sales, and raised bridging capital to keep it growing, while reaching out to potential investors and acquirers. True North then presented the board of directors and shareholders with five of the multiple options they sought: two private equity firms and two private buyer groups each ready to purchase a significant ownership interest, fund the growth of the Company, and keep the shareholders with a retained interest to participate in future growth; and a publicly-traded company ready to acquire the entire Company in a cash transaction for the selling shareholders. True North delivered to the board of directors and shareholders what they wanted – a choice of options.
